Meanwhile, it's time to move on to the topic of traffic generation.
There are no shortcuts... at least not that will have any lasting
value. You get can get fast traffic, and sometimes that is certainly
a way to boost traffic.. But, for consistent quality,
targeted
traffic.. you simply have to do the work. OR.. pay someone to do it
for you.
Hands down.. one of the fastest ways to generate traffic is PPC. It's
also one of the fastest ways to lose your shirt.. so do your due
diligence and study all the training you can get your hands on before
your start bidding for ppc traffic.
1st
Things 1st.... KEYWORD RESEARCH
Generating traffic starts with keyword research. There are
tons of
keyword research courses out there.. just google it. Almost all of
them repeat what the others tell you. Some promote paid
tools; some
get super involved with spreadsheets. Frankly.. it drives me
insane.
The 3 tools listed below are FREE.. I purchased one I think is really
excellent.. It helps take some of the work out of the process.. but you
don't have to spend the money if you have time and don't find the
statistics thing as frustrating as I do. Details just drive
me crazy. LOL
The freebies work fine.. especially if you are analytical.
The Google Adwords tool is probably the most accurate tool in
terms of
google's MONTHLY search volume. By entering your keyword and performing
the search, the tool will return a list of ~100 or so
directly related keywords.
When using the Adwords tool, you should select the EXACT match type to
get the most accurate results. If you leave it at default..
‘broad’ match
type, you will get greatly inflated numbers. This is because the tool
will
return results for all keywords containing your phrase. When you use
the
exact match option, it only returns the searches for the exact phrase
and
nothing else.
A good number to look for in a market is 50,000+ searches a month for
the
primary keyword.
The “Advertiser competition” section shows you (in relative terms) how
many
people are advertising for that term with PPC. Again, if you find that
keywords have a lot of competition, this is not necessarily a bad thing
–
it is an indicator that the market is profitable.
The Traffic Estimator is useful for examining the type of traffic that
you
can expect to get from a PPC ad on that keyword, as well as the cost
per click.
This tool gives the daily search volume for the top 100 directly
related terms.
The numbers are not as accurate as Google’s, but they can be used as a
good
estimate.
By using the “Google Trends” option (which is the little bar chart
button to
the right of each listing) you can instantly see the number of
competing pages
in Google, along with the estimated traffic you would get IF you had
the number
1 position on Google for that term.
As a rule of thumb, look for any keywords that can give 50-100 visitors
per day
as being a potentially good keyword to target. As far as competition
goes,
look for less than 30,000.
KWBrowse.com –gives directly related terms as well as thematically
related terms.
This can be useful for digging down into sub-niches from a primary
keyword
You need some time; when you are doing your
keyword research. If you are like
me, it is hard to pick up where you left off.. if you have to stop and
come back
later.
